Talking About Campus Cravings

Hi, I’m Mia Downing. I want to thank Lacey for organizing this event to celebrate you, the reader! I’m giving away a signed print book to a lucky commenter, so stay tuned!

I’ve never written a Christmas story before, which is sort of sad. Switching Leads begins right before Christmas but I sort of skip over that fresh hell since it wouldn’t be a very good holiday for either of my heroes. Cathia U’s equestrian team coach John Graham is under a lot of stress. His mom has mid-stage Alzheimer’s disease. His equestrian team is falling apart at the seams. To top it off, his boss has hired John’s ex boyfriend, Finn Parker, to be his new assistant coach.

Finn’s life isn’t so cozy, either. He’s on the injured list due to a tragic accident on a client’s horse. He’s struggling every day with alcoholism and realizes that he needs John’s forgiveness and acceptance in order to move on. However, John isn’t very receptive to forgiving. He’d rather Finn leave so he can forget him.

However, these two had celebrated a few good Christmas days in college together, and I thought it would be neat to come up with gifts they’d give each other after they find their happily ever after.

Finn is the rich jokester with a generous heart. I see him giving John a couple of prank presents, like a T-shirt with weird slogans or a Chia pet. But I think this year Finn would splurge on John and purchase him the semi-custom French made saddle John has always wanted but couldn’t afford.

John has a little less cash at his disposal, but he’d make it count. He’d get Finn a very expensive but tasteful necklace. It would feature the Alcoholics Anonymous symbol so Finn could always have a reminder of his hard work and John’s pride in his efforts. I think he’d also come out of his shell a little and go for a few sexy gifts, like the silk boxers Finn has been admiring, plus some fancy lube and maybe some sex toys. He’d go out of his way to surprise and shock the man in his life!

An excerpt from Switching Leads...

A soft knock rattled the door. John pushed away just as it opened and Finn shoved his head in.
“Oh, hey. Can I talk to you?”

“Busy,” John managed, his throat tight, choking down any other words that wanted to come out. Of course, it had to be Finn. He strode over to the desk and shuffled papers through his trembling hands, hoping it all looked natural. Just close the door and go away.

“You okay?” Finn slid through the small gap and shut the door behind him.

Was he? His hand froze on the note Rob had left him earlier, reminding him about Finn starting today, knowing John rarely checked email on the weekend. “Fine.”

“You have to talk to me at some point.” Finn cocked his head. “It’s just a matter of time.”

John whirled and leaned against the desk, his heart racing. Talking wasn’t good. If he was already seeking Finn’s approval, how long would it be before Finn coaxed him into bed? March? February? Hell, next week? Did he have that much will power? How long before his heart would be trampled again?

About Mia Downing…

Mia Downing started creating heroes at age four, but her heroes back then rode ponies to rescue the princess and only kissed her on the cheek. Today, Mia's heroes still rescue those in need, but the price of their toys and the expertise of their seduction leads to a lot more than a peck on the cheek. When Mia isn't busy creating new stories for her readers she fills in as an underwear model for a prestigious lingerie company. She also lives in New England with her family and enjoys horses and knitting.

Fun facts: Mia can juggle (poorly,) create balloon animals and face paint. She was the hit entertainment of two family parties. No clown suits were involved.

    1. Thank you, Amber! It was a lot of fun to write. We had a secret group to share and create in. The evolution of the pizza place was my favorite! It serves Mob-themed pies and sandwiches, like The Godfather. LOL

    1. Hi Phuong! Thanks for the kind words. I hate holiday shopping, too. I tried Internet shopping last year since I had gotten Prime for free with my Kindle. It was AMAZING. The Internet is a wonderful invention!
